Vance Calls Harris a Miserable Childless Cat Lady
The political problem that Donald Trump has with his running mate JD Vance is that he doesn't attract a single voter outside the MAGA base. You could argue he's even more consistently MAGA that Trump himself. His rhetoric and boorishness especially turns off the female voters that sent Trump packing in 2020.
When you compare the results by voting demographics between the 2016 and 2020 elections, the various groups were remarkably consistent. However, one group stood out - suburban women. Trump did surprisingly well with suburban women voters in 2016 against Hillary Clinton, keeping things close enough to provide the margin of victory. But in 2020, Trump was crushed by those very voters by a wide margin.
Rather than attempt to shore up that deficit with suburban women, the Trump camp appears to have written them off. That was apparent when Trump passed over other candidates for his running mate to choose Vance. He choose the candidate that the MAGA base wanted, under the erroneous theory that he had expanded his base enough to win and was cruising to an easy victory.
When he was running for Senate in 2022, Vance said the following about Kamala Harris and other female Democrats holding elective office:
"We're effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via the corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too. It's just a basic fact. You have Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. How does that make any sense when we've turned our country over to people who don't have a direct stake in it."
So, because Harris doesn't have natural born children, she must be "miserable" and doesn't have a stake in America? George Washington didn't have children. Did he not have a stake in America because of that?
Quite a message to take to the voters.
