Trump's Latest Ad Features the Frat Group Who Made Monkey Gestures and Noises Toward a Black Woman
On Truth Social Friday, Trump posted a new ad mixing footage of campus protests for Palestine with clips from right wing news. Trump's ad praised counter protesters who held up the American flag while also holding an Israeli flag. One counter protester featured in Trump's ad said he was called a white supremacist.
One part of Trump's ad states:
"I think the most popular college students right now are the ones at UNC. God bless those UNC frat guys for taking down the Palestinian flag and putting up Old Glory."
Trump's video then cuts to a frat group from the University of Mississippi who had a member making monkey gestures and monkey noises towards a Black women student who was protesting for Palestine. Trump's ad uses that same footage, but cuts away before the student making monkey faces, gestures, and noises shows up.
Trump's ad cuts away right after another student appears to dance away from the Black student. As the footage played, the video said, "Giving us some hope there that not all college students have gone woke."
The original clip has gone viral on social media and has received widespread condemnation for the blatant racist action toward the Black student. Making monkey noises and gestures toward Black people is one of the oldest forms of racism.
Other clips show the same group of white students chanting "Lizzo" at the Black student in an apparent attempt to body shame her. The group also chanted "lock her up" and called yelled, "F*ck you fat ass."
The original footage was captured by Stacey Spiehler, a University of Mississippi student.
If Trump gets back into power, he will be further emboldened and amplify this sort of behavior. Trump is fanning the flames of racial division in the country to boost his MAGA Republican brand. It's his 2016 playbook all over again. It never stopped.
