Trump Posted Mindy Kaling Video to Falsely Claim Kamala Harris Isn’t Black
MAGA social media accounts have been attacking Kamala Harris’ racial identity by using a 2019 clip of Mindy Kaling, a writer and actress well known for her role as Kelly Kapoor on the hit TV show The Office, cooking Indian food with Harris. Trump used that video on Wednesday to attack Harris:
“Crazy Kamala is saying she's Indian, not Black. This is a big deal. Stone cold phony. She uses everybody, including her racial identity!”

Trump claims the clip of Kaling and Kamala discussing their shared Indian heritage proves Kamala Harris is “Indian, not Black.” Trump said the issue was “a big deal” and Harris is a “stone cold phony.”

Trump then claimed Harris uses people, by implication this would include Kaling, as well as her own “racial identity.” Trump’s racist attack shows he is clueless about what it means to be biracial.
Trump’s social media post follows his racist attack on Harris earlier in the day to the National Association of Black Journalists. At that event, Trump claimed Harris was an Indian who decided to “turn” Black and then “became a Black person.”
Trump also appears to have begun his attacks on Kamala Harris’ racial identity last week on Truth Social with a meme pointing out that Harris has said she is both Indian and Black a different times. The meme, which Trump believes is a gotcha, simply betrays his lack of understanding regarding biracial people.
Harris father is a Black Jamaican migrant of African descent who became a United States citizen. Her mother is Indian. Harris is both Black and Indian.
In the video Trump posted of Harris and Kaling cooking Indian food, Harris states that Haling family looks like “half” of her own family, a reference to her own racial identity of being of both Indian and Black heritage.

On Thursday morning, Trump posted another attack on Harris by showing a photo of her mom’s side of the family. Trump believes these racist attacks against Harris are going to secure him an electoral victory.
