Tennessee GOP Caucus Chair Urinates All Over Himself During Field Sobriety Test
Tennessee State Sen. Ken Yager (R-Kingston) appeared to pee himself while taking a field sobriety test in Georgia, Tuesday. Yager is the chair of the Tennessee State Senate Republican Caucus. Yager told the press he had an "an unfortunate incident" after being apprehended for DUI in the parking lot of a grocery store in Jekyll Island, Georgia following a hit and run crash.
When state troopers responded to the vehicle involved in the crash, they found emergency responders were already on the scene as the 77-year-old had tripped and fallen while getting out of the car. Troopers reportedly noticed "a distinct odor of alcohol on his breath," which prompted Yager to admit he had "a couple glasses of wine" that day.
Yager then failed a field sobriety test when he was unable to walk in a straight line, during which time he appeared to urinate all over the front of his pants. His field sobriety test was called off over concerns for his safety when he could not stand on one foot.
Yager then agreed to a breathalyzer, which returned a breath alcohol content of 0.14, according to the incident report. The legal blood alcohol content limit is 0.08. He was booked and spent the night in jail, but was released Wednesday morning. He is being charged with hit and run; duty of driver to stop or return to scene of accident, failure to stop at a stop sign, and DUI less safe driver.
The Ford Edge he was driving is an official vehicle that Yager reportedly makes lease payments on using campaign funds.
If he is indicted, Tennessee Senate ethics rules require he step down as Caucus Chair.
