Rep. Andrew Clyde to Introduce Amendments to Defund Prosecutions of Trump
Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) appeared on Newsmax to promote his plan to introduce certain amendments in DOJ's appropriation bill. During the interview, Clyde said his amendment would defund any prosecution of a presidential candidate prior to the 2024 election. Clyde added that he will also introduce a second amendment that would stop any funds from going to a state or local office if they decide to prosecute a presidential candidate prior to the 2024 election.
Clyde’s announcement highlights how chaotic the upcoming House of Representatives sessions and hearings will be, as they are set to return on September 12th. Trump’s allies in the House will be looking to undermine the multiple prosecutions of the former president while also pushing for an impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
Clyde previously received sharp criticism for describing the video of the January 6th insurrection as a “normal tourist visit.” Pictures of what appeared to be a terrified Clyde near a barricade on January 6th circulated on social media following his comments.
