Former Vice President Mike Pence, who served as the Vice President in Donald Trump's first administration, has come out publicly against Trump's recent nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to become the next Secretary of Health and Human Services. Pence pushes back against Kennedy's nomination solely due to the fact that Kennedy is not completely pro-life.

Pence writes that for the majority of Kennedy's career, he supported abortion rights for women, and as a result, Pence could not support his nomination to lead a department partly responsible for making decisions concerning access to reproductive care. Pence writes this despite Kennedy's recent changes in his beliefs, even supporting a national abortion ban on the campaign trail.

Whether or not Pence's statement this morning will sway Republicans in the Senate remains unclear. But, many Republicans in the Senate have previously supported Vice President Pence, and those same Republicans proclaim themselves to be pro-life. Now that Pence is no longer Vice President, and Trump is in office again, the question remains whether or not they will abandon their own beliefs to kiss the ring of Trump and confirm Kennedy to the post.
