Lauren Boebert Abandons District to Try to Win in 2024

She'll now be running in Colorado's 4th

Seeing the writing on the wall regarding the prospects for her reelection, Lauren Boebert announced on Wednesday via a Facebook video post that she will be abandoning her constituents in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District to run in Colorado's 4th Congressional District in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Boebert has been facing an uphill battle for reelection in Colorado's 3rd, as the MAGA congresswoman has become better known for her scandals than her ability to actually govern. Recently, Lauren Boebert was kicked out of a Denver theater for being disruptive and engaging in sex acts during a showing of Beetlejuice.

The MeidasTouch Network reported earlier Wednesday that Boebert was struggling in fundraising compared to her Democratic opponent, Adam Frisch. Boebert just barely eked out a victory against Frisch in 2022 by 546 votes.

Boebert was also facing a primary challenge from Republican attorney Jeff Hurd.

The embattled Republican congresswoman hopes that she will fare better in Colorado's 4th, a district that leans more Republican.

As The Colorado Sun explains, "The 3rd District leans 9 percentage points in Republicans’ favor while the 4th District leans 27 points toward the GOP, according to a nonpartisan analysis of election results from 2016 to 2020 by staffers for the Colorado legislature. Boebert doesn’t have to live in the 4th District to represent it."

The 4th District is currently represented by Congressman Ken Buck, who decided to not seek reelection in 2024.

Boebert will be joining a crowded field of Republicans vying for the job in Colorado's 4th.

Per The Colorado Sun, the following Republicans are currently running:

  • Former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg of Sterling. He’s currently a Logan County commissioner.
  • State Rep. Richard Holtorf of Akron
  • Conservative talk radio host Deborah Flora
  • Former state Sen. Ted Harvey of Highlands Ranch

Colorado House Minority Leader Mike Lynch of Wellington is also expected to enter the race in the coming days.

The timing of Lauren Boebert's announcement comes on the heels of President Biden's visit to her district, in which he touted the jobs brought to CS Wind, a wind turbine manufacturing plant in Pueblo, Colorado that added hundreds of jobs thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act. Boebert opposed the legislation and called it a “massive failure.” CS Wind is now the largest wind turbine tower manufacturer in the world.

It seems as if President Biden's visit not only exposed the ways in which Boebert voted against the interests of her own constituents, but scared her away from the district entirely.
