GOP House Candidate Recreates MLK Assassination, Reviews Shooter’s Rifle
Republican congressional candidate Brandon Herrera, also known as "the AK Guy," posted a video recreating the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and reviewed the rifle used by shooter James Earl Ray. Herrera is challenging Republican incumbent Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas' 23rd congressional district.
In his full video, Herrera informed his audience of the antagonistic role the FBI played in MLK's life and shared his views on conspiracy theories regarding the assassination. However, Herrera's attempt to, as he put it, combine the topic with "dark, edgy humor" in a video may not sit well will some Republican voters.
Herrera used a realistic target dummy to recreate the simulation and said King was the reason why kids get out of school in February. Fact check, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is in the 3rd Monday in January each year.
The Republican candidate attempted the shot twice and felt satisfied that he was "faithful" to the wound trajectory. At the end of his video, Herrera shot the MLK target dummy at close proximity, execution style, laughed, then commented, "this is so fucking wrong."
Herrera promoted his video by warning YouTube might find it “too spicy.”
Herrera then cleaned the "blood" off table to be "polite" and called his video a mix of a "somber" topic and "dark, edgy humor."
In social media post, Herrera said he worked for Trump's 2016 campaign and once got Trump to autograph a copy of Art of the Deal.
Herrera also took a photo with Trump at his Charlotte golf club in 2016.
Recreating the assassination of MLK and making yourself the first person shooter for YouTube subscriptions is something no other GOP candidate has done. Getting the entire month wrong on MLK day is quite impressive when every device has a calendar app.
These far right, MAGA Republicans are exactly what Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and their ilk want to get elected.
The execution shot of the MLK target dummy at the end of the video combined with the GOP candidate’s laughing is horrific. Herrera’s statement is correct: “This is so fucking wrong.”
