FBI Director Christopher Wray has officially resigned from the FBI prior to his ten year term expiring. Wray was previously appointed to lead the FBI by Donald Trump, but quickly lost the support of Trump after the former President left office. 

Trump has since nominated Kash Patel to take over as the Director of the FBI and was expected to fire Wray when he took office in January. 

There remain questions over whether or not Patel will be confirmed by the United States Senate, but Trump will be able to appoint Patel as an acting director of the agency for 210 days, regardless of if he is confirmed. 

According to Fox News, Wray made the announcement during an all staff town hall and said that now was his time to leave the agency. Wray will stay on until the end of the Biden Administration stating:
