Today, President Biden announced that the Israeli Government has put forth a new ceasefire proposal in an effort to end the war in Gaza, one that would be executed in three phases.

The first phase of the deal would see a six week ceasefire, along with the withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza and a swap of hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The second phase would see a return of all remaining hostages currently in Hamas custody. The final phase of the deal would see a major reconstruction plan of Gaza to allow for Palestinian civilians to return back to their homes.

President Biden has further announced that Hamas is no longer capable of launching another October 7th-style terrorist attack and lacks a large part of the military capabilities it previously had. The proposal will be included as part of a larger regional negotiation that could see normalization agreements between Israel and Saudi Arabia along with a plan for the day after the war.

The ball is now in Hamas' court to accept the ceasefire deal. It remains to be seen whether the terrorist group will agree.
